UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA FACULTY OF LAW
ACCESS TO JUSTICE PRACTICUM: REFUGEE SPONSORSHIP SUPPORT PROGRAM (CML 2179/CML 2184)
This practicum provides a small number of upper-year students with the opportunity to undertake hands-on legal work in support of refugee sponsorship through the Refugee Sponsorship Support Program (SSP). The SSP trains and mobilizes pro-bono lawyers and law students to provide crucial legal support to sponsor groups and refugees throughout the complex sponsorship application process. The course blends substantive learning in refugee law and Canada’s Private Sponsorship of Refugees (PSR) system with practical, hands-on experience providing pro bono legal assistance and education to the Ottawa community. Refugee lawyer and sponsorship expert Nick Hersh leads this course.
Offered Fall/Winter 2020; enrollment by application.
